Welcome to the Houses for Peace pbwiki!

The purpose behind the Houses for Peace project is threefold:

  • To create an international network of households dedicated to the work of local and global peace, open to everyone – regardless of gender, race, nationality, religious or political beliefs, social status, etc. – in which every participating person or household delves into the process of peace by seeking to create, discover, understand and implement practical ways of peacemaking within and around themselves. This includes fostering, supporting and hosting local debate and community peace work.
  • To offer part of one's private life, time and space for the welcoming of others, establishing forms of practical service that can be readily applied and adapted to many people’s current life situations. This positioning proposes a shift in what concerns personal property and personal gain, in order to create a different approach to social interactions and social interdependencies. The idea is to increase the awareness and realization of human society as a form of brotherhood and companionship in the adventure of life, and to open up each person’s life to the richness of giving and forming connections within a larger community of peacemakers.
  • To create welcoming spaces for people who need to step outside of their normal lives for a time and are seeking a peaceful place to be. Houses for Peace should serve anyone in need of solace, refuge, welcome, wellness, retreat, joy, renewal, refocusing and peace. Each host of a House for Peace maintains the autonomy to choose in which way they can best serve their local communities.
